Fellow cartoonist Winter told me about Inkscape, an open source vector program. It does everything I use in Illustrator, but for free! I whipped up a traced image with a speech balloon in around ten minutes using it for the first time. I am definitely impressed. {I traced an old… Read more“We Have a Winner!”
Trying New Things
My exploration into cheaper programs for comic making has been mostly fruitful. Running GIMP via X11 works very well. It’s way faster than Photoshop CS2, and I’d say favorably comparable to the CS3 beta I had been using. Rapidweaver turned out to be a lot more like iWeb than Dreamweaver…. Soy! Soy!
A few months ago I invested some of my savings in the stock market. My portfolio is a whopping 5 shares in several different companies. I’d rather not divulge too much about my financial information on the internets but I’ll toss out a tidbit: one of my companies is Apple…. Read more“Soy! Soy!”
Bring Out the GIMP!
Adobe released their new Creative Suite, including programs that they ate when they bought out Macromedia. I was hoping that their price structure would make things a little cheaper. I guess I should read a basic economics book because if a company controls a certain niche, they can apparently charge… Read more“Bring Out the GIMP!”
Uncle Owen, Space Anthropologist
My brother sent me this awesome book: The Making of Star Wars. It focuses solely on A New Hope, from Lucas’s first concepts to post-release and the making of the universe surrounding the movie for all of the promotional tie-ins. Me: No. Kristin: Can she age? Me: Um, I haven’t thought of that. Kristin: Maybe she ages slower… Read more“Kristin is Into Details”
I took a bit of time but some pics of our trip to St. Louis from a few weeks back are now up on Flickr. It’s a must see if you like millipedes or penguins. Kristin has some photos too, including the soon-to-be classic where a penguin bites her camera!… Read more“”
How Come No One Told Me My Blog Was Boring?
I scrolled through my blog page to check for formatting bugs and I saw something. Every cloud was in the right place and all the links seem to work. The code was fine. What I saw that bugged me was a whole lot of text. A whole lot! Considering the… Read more“How Come No One Told Me My Blog Was Boring?”
I Just Found Something Called Google Earth
Just kidding. But lately I’ve been using it to check out places in Peru. Some of the field school students wanted to know where their hostel is located. I scanned over the city of Lima until I found the right place. I guess you can’t tell much about crime and… Read more“I Just Found Something Called Google Earth”
