St. Louis Zoo ’10

It’s been ages since I’ve been to St. Louis. I printed out my usual pages of maps, which necessitated a midnight trip to Walmart for ink, before realizing that I have a GPS now. Thirty seconds of typing in directions and I was good to go.

The Indie Craft Revolution was in a historic building at Oak Knoll Park, in Clayton. Mo’s Mouse Market (3M?) was right inside the front door, which was awesome. Not so awesome was the $5000 painting hanging behind it: I had a hard time remembering not to lean up against the wall!

After some light assistance and taking in the art scene, I went to the zoo. The overcast weather might have made the animals unwilling to hang out in their enclosure: the River’s Edge had an atrocious walk-to-animals ratio. The indoor exhibits were a better bet: and my magic camera took some surprisingly good photos:

The big cat section was buzzing, possibly purring, with activity though. Four tigers were milling around in one exhibit. A snow leopard was chasing its own tail until it fell over. A jaguar was chewing on a cow’s leg and carrying it around. It was pretty neat.

After the zoo I went back to the craft show before heading off for dinner. I had some great Indian food at House of India (Yelp.com’s top rated restaurant in the University City area!) and then went down Delmar to Star Clipper. I ended the trip with a barley flavored bubble tea (really good!) and drove back to Columbia.

    Barley flavored bubble tea? That sounds rather bizarre and oddly tasty. Your frog pics reminded me of something frog-related I wanted to tell you. We went for a walk on the Rocheport section of the Katy on Friday, and as we were climbing up the trail to the bistro, we found a little waterway in the middle of the path with a mini waterfall, and it was FULL of frogs. I could have died happy at that moment…

    I’m a big fan of malted or barleyed drinks in general (but not fermented ones!). The barley bubble tea was very… crunchy, but its flavor was very good.
